Hoot #1

We celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday by having a day filled with Dr. Seuss inspired games and activities.  The students LOVED every single minute of this day!  We had Dr. Seuss soup, Ring the Gack, Red Fish Toss, Go Fishing, marble painting, foot measuring, and Green Eggs and Ham!  Check out our fun filled day below!

Dr. Seuss Trail Mix for Snack!  YUMMY!!

We had Goldfish crackers for One Fish, Two Fish; Froot Loops for Truffala Seeds, Mini marshmallows for Horton's egg; Animal crackers for Put Me in the Zoo; Popcorn for Hop on Pop; M&Ms for My Many Colored Days; and Teddy Grahams for Barbaloot Bears.

 It made my teacher heart happy that this was one of the favorite activities!  They got to read and explore all different Dr. Seuss books.  They were excited to look at the books we haven't read yet. 

 

Ring the Gack (game found in One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish)  was a hit!  It was so funny to watch the students try to ring the Gack.  All I used were some pool noodles, an old hat, and diving rings.  

 Do you like Green Eggs and Ham??  Students LOVED trying it out for themselves!  They even made a connection to the book, and said I like them just like Sam I Am!  I only had 2 that didn't like them.  The rest begged for seconds!

Cup stacking was very popular at our 100 day celebration, that I decided to bring it back for this day.  Although it didn't go as planned, the kiddos still loved it.  I had originally wanted red and white cups to stack to make the Cat in the Hat's hat.  Well, it is a lot harder that I thought to find red and white cups that are the same size!!  So I had to just improvise and let them build!  

 Foot measuring was so much fun!  Students didn't even realize how much they were learning with this simple activity.  They were discussing who had a bigger foot and seeing how had the same number of objects when they measured!  Learning can be fun!

We had an awesome time at the Memphis Children's Museum! This is always one of my favorite field trips. Students get to role play and pretend...AS KINDERS SHOULD!

This Week's Holler...

Hoot #1

Sorry that this is so late. Life has been a little crazy for us. Let's backtrack to February to see all that was going on!  
 This year instead of a party, we decided to do Valentine's Day Centers. The kids had a blast!

London is trying to see how many hearts using a craft stick and a Dixie cup.

 Students used geoboards to create hearts and Cupid's Arrows.

Kevin is trying to see how many conversation hearts he can stack and balance on his craft stick.

D'Javan is using a shake straw to blow his arrow (Q-tip) in to the bowl in front of him.

Hoot #2

This year in honor of Black History Month, we were invited to walk through a living wax museum of famous black Americans.  The museum was hosted by a third grade class.  I was so impressed at how well each person knew their character, and how clearly they spoke.  The kindergartners got to walk around and look.  When they wanted to hear more about that person, they waved.  At the wave of their hand, the "wax statue" came to life and told interesting facts about themselves.  I was VERY impressed at how well these 3rd graders did, and I was also very pleased at how well my kinders paid attention to them and listened.  It was so exciting to see some of my former students participate in this and to see how much they have grown since kindergarten!  

This Week's Holler...
This holler goes out to Shauna Gardner! She was able to organize, and make Math Night not only happen, but made it a HUGE success!! Parents came from all grades to see how their student learns math, and they got to take home resources and supplies to use at home! 
It was a great night to be a Gator!

As everyone knows, Fortnite is all the rage. If you have not used Phonicsman's Fortnite sight word song, you are missing out! My kids love it and beg to do it everyday.  You should definitely try it. He also has a great counting song to 100 song to the "Shoe."

Hoot #2

 For Christmas this past year, I asked for a karaoke machine with disco lights!  Of course, my parents thought I was crazy to ask for such a thing...but I knew 22 kinders who would absolutely LOVE it!  My favorite feature of this is that is syncs with my phone through bluetooth, and all of my alarms are loud.  Now transitions are easy because they know what the alarms mean.  My students love the microphone!  We sing and dance a lot in my class, so I ask students to lead the class in the songs that are being sung on the PowerPoint.  It may be leading the class to sing and spell sight words or count to 100.  What I have found by using this silly machine is that students are on their best behavior because they WANT to use the microphone.  I also have found that students focus and learn more so they can perform for their peers.  For instance, if a student is struggling to count to 100, then I will let them know that their turn will be coming up in the next few days.  They begin to listen and participate more eagerly, and when it is their turn to use the mic...they can do it!!!  

This just may be one of the best things I have ever bought for my class!!

Hoot #1

My class got to do an escape room at school!  With the help of our Title I teacher, it was a HUGE success!  The students were all engaged and had a blast!  It all started when the mad scientist hid clues to keep them from escaping and getting their prizes.  Students had to count objects and search for clues around the room as they worked in teams.  It was hilarious to watch their faces and hear the conversations that took place!  Before we began, I told them that they would be like detectives who had clues to find and a mystery to solve.  They insisted on bringing "spy glasses" with them on this adventure!  I was so proud of how well they worked together!  And every team escaped with 10 minutes to spare!!!  We can't wait to do another escape room!! 

 

Hoot #2
We are 100 days smarter! We created stations for the students to do. They each were given an exit ticket. As they finished one they simply moved on to the next.  We had an awesome day! This week's holler goes out to all of the teachers out there!! Everyone know that there is a teacher shortage. It is understandable. Daily, it seems, there are more and more demands being put on us on top of teaching our children. At times it can seem impossible, but you get up every morning and give it 100%. You make it happen for these kids. You stand strong for their rights as well as yours. You are a fighter. Keep fighting the good fight.
