Two Hoots and A Holler

Hoot #1
Our school helped raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  We ended up raising $2,000 to help end childhood cancer!  We couldn't be more proud of our school!  This past weekend we got together with some teachers at our school. We walked a 5K to help find a cure.  Other schools from our district were there as well; our county raised over $30,000 for St. Jude!  How AWESOME is that?!?!?!  We had a blast doing this together as a team.  It was so amazing and inspiring to see all of the supporters and volunteers there to help end childhood cancer.  At the end of the race, we even got a medal!!  We look forward to doing this again, and we hope that this can become a tradition for our school!

We have been learning all about our names and colors of the rainbow.  So what better way to end the week than rainbow writing and rainbow hair?!?!  We wrote our name with the colors of the rainbow (rainbow writing), cut it apart, and glued it back together.  Then we counted the letters in our names and graphed our names according to how many letters were in it.  Then each child got to make their own Rainbow Hair to wear!  They got to style their rainbow hair however they wanted.  This was their favorite part!  They could fold their hair, curl their hair with a pencil, or leave it straight.  The students were so excited about their rainbow hair, that they begged to wear it everywhere!

We also drew ourselves and counted how many syllables in our name.

Two Hoots and A Holler

Hoot # 1
Last week we got to use Julie Lee's troll unit!!  The students absolutely LOVED the activities!!  I didn't use the streamers for the hair, I let my students pick a color of construction paper to cut and glue. We still need practice with cutting and gluing. The students thought it was so funny to give their troll a haircut.  We highly recommend you trying this out in your room, we guarantee your students will LOVE it!

It is Homecoming Week!  Each day students were asked to dress up to help celebrate Homecoming.   Students were asked to dress in clothes from a previous decade, favorite sports team attire, animal prints, and Gator Gear!  It was also our picture day this week, so one of those days students were asked to dress their best for pictures.  We have enjoyed seeing students come to school dressed up and showing their school pride!
This girl was ready for Homecoming Week!!  She had her super cute outfits planned for each day!

Check out these Jitterbugs and Rockstars!

This week we had a special guest come to our classroom to read. LITTLE MISS MISSISSIPPI!!!!!  We are always glad when someone wants to come read to us, but when royalty asks, we do not turn them down! We are very grateful that Emma Kate, Little Miss Mississippi, chose us! Emma Kate is a 4th grade student at our school. She brightens our halls everyday! Thank you again for coming!

This week we have been doing what we love to do...giving back to our community. Our Community includes St. Jude. It is just 30 minutes from us.  St. Jude is having a benefit on September 23rd. The outpouring of support that our students have shown has touched my heart tremendously. Our goal was to raise $1000. We started with "Change for a Cure." Students were asked to bring any loose change to put in their grades bottle.

We also had "Cupcakes for a Cure." The students purchased cupcakes provided by our staff for $.50. We sold over 400 cupcakes! What a wonderful team effort from teachers and students.  We still have tomorrow to collect change and we will serve cupcakes again next week, but we are proud to say that we have raised over $1100 for St. Jude and their patients.
Walls Gators love St. Jude!!

This week's holler goes out to Jennifer Hamilton at "A Dab of Glue Will Do." She has stuff for every theme that you can imagine. She also has her own TPT store. But, if science is what you are looking for, then Jennifer is your girl. We love her Blood Model Cell experiment! I think that we will be doing this with out house in October! Thanks for sharing Jennifer.
