Two Hoots and A Holler

Hoot #1
We had our Christmas party in kinder before we went on our break.  We had a day filled with hot chocolate, pizza, presents, laughter, and fun!  We loved seeing our students so happy!  Seeing students just as excited about giving as they are about receiving makes our hearts so happy!  They are the reason why we do what we do!

Now that we are back into the swing of things, we are all reaching our goals for the end of the year!! I do not know about you guys but we are willing to do everything that it takes to get these children excited about reading!
One of my Christmas presents was this cool microphone! What can I say, my mom knew exactly what I would love!
Isn't it pretty???

I couldn't wait to get this into the students' hands! It was the first thing that we talked about when we came back. The students were totally excited. I told them that they could read their sight words to me by using the microphone. The students were totally excited. Today we tested our students on sight words. We do this every other Thursday using our ESGI assessment (If you do not have this...YOU WANT THIS!!! It saves us a ton of time). They loved every minute of today as they read their sight words!! There is so much more this can do. I can't wait to figure it all out!

This Week's Holler...

We are in love with her listen and learn phonics pack! It is just what our students need to meet their year end goals! Thanks Kristen for sharing your great ideas!! Go check her out!

Two Hoots and A Holler

Hoot #1

Before Thanksgivng Break, we went to the Orpheum to watch "Red and Green Rhythmic Circus".  Kamarion sat on the very front row and watched their every move.  Since that field trip he has wanted to dance like the dancers that he saw on that stage.  He came back from Thanksgiving Break shouting "I got it!"  Then he showed us what he was talking about...he had been practicing tap dancing like he saw on that field trip!  When he shows us what he has been practicing or when he watches tap dancers on the computer, his whole face lights up!  He has so much interest and passion about tap dancing.  We knew right away what we must do!  Well, Santa came early this year and brought Kamarion a pair of tap shoes! His face is indescribable.  He is a great tap dancer, and we plan to use him as part of our kindergarten program!  Watching his excitement over tap shoes and dancing overflows our hearts with joy and happiness.  Oh to be a kid again!  This right here is what it is all about!!  It truly brings a smile to our faces and a tear to our eyes.

Our first House field trip is in the bag! We took about 100 kinder and 5th grade students to the Memphis Riverkings hockey game. It could not have gone any better. The students sat according to their house. We just love watching the 5th graders interact with their kindergarten house buddy! This was such a FUN field trip!  Can't wait to do it again.  We all had such a blast!

This Week's Holler...
While looking on the internet for fun, new Christmas ideas to use in our classrooms, we ran across Mrs. Hoffer's Kindergarten.  We LOVE how she transformed her classroom into Santa's workshop!  Since visiting RCA, we have been very interested to see how teachers in kindergarten are transforming their classrooms.  Kudos to Mrs. Hoffer for giving her students this wonderful experience!  Go check out how she did it!

HOUSE PARTY!!!!
This past week we had our house party. This month's house party was different from all of the others. It consisted of all of the houses coming together to create gingerbread houses! Each house went to a designated area where we had all of the items needed to create their house. It was an awesome morning filled with love and laughter! As you can see, they worked hard and together to create some awesome homes. In kinder, we have been reading various versions of "The Gingerbread Man". This fit very nicely with our lessons.

As teachers, we always seem to discuss the importance of parent involvement. It is so important to have parents that support you and the goals that you have for their students.  When we work together as a team, there are no limits to what our students can do! We have some awesome parents in our rooms this year. We just want to say thank you for making our job a little easier and more enjoyable. Jitterbugs and Rockstars are truly the best!

This Week's Holler
This week's holler  goes out to Catherine at The Brown Bag Teacher. She teaches a combination K/1 class that totally intrigues us. When you check out her blog, you will see that she has something for everyone. We love her technology section on her blog. There are recommendations of downloads that are wonderful for the classroom.  We have already tried a few. Happy reading!!
