Two Hoots and A Holler

Hoot #1
It is so hard to believe that Thanksgiving is already here, and Christmas is right around the corner.  Time flies when you're having fun!   We are thankful that we are off the week of Thanksgiving because the days leading up to it have kept us super busy!  We have had a Veteran's Day Program, train safety presentation and visitors, a field trip, and our Thanksgiving feast!

Our Veteran's Day program is always a big hit!  It is a Walls tradition to have this awesome program.  It takes a lot of preparation to make it happen from the staff, but it is so worth it!  We love that we have the opportunity to honor and celebrate all of our veterans.

Obie, the little train, was brought to our school from CN Railway!  The students always have so much fun learning about train safety and riding the train around the school!

Here we are at the Orpheum in Memphis, TN waiting on the Rhythmic Circus to begin!  The show was very entertaining and fun!

We celebrated Thanksgiving by eating lunch in our best Thanksgiving attire with all of our kindergarten friends!  The students loved making their hats and vests!  They even got to eat lunch on their place mat that they made!

This week has us like....

Hoot #2
We are so proud of how much progress our kids are showing!  We have been working really hard on writing and math.  We have began writing in our journals daily, and the students are loving it!  They are taking so much pride in their stories.  We also have been learning part-part-whole in math.  This is a very hard skill to understand at first.  We are beginning to see our students understand the concept because of their hard work and perseverance.  The best part about all of it is that we are seeing our students become more independent and grow into risk takers and problem solvers...and that makes our hearts SO happy!

This Week's Holler...
This week we would like to holler at Herding Kats in Kindergarten.  We love her fall math activities to use with our dollar spot finds at Target!  We also love how she incorporates videos into her blog posts! It makes teaching a whole lot easier when teachers like her share all that they know!

Two Hoots and A Holler: We Salute Fall and our Veterans!

Hoot #1
This week we had fun with scarecrows! We discussed how scarecrows actually got their name. Then we thought of things that scared us. After doing some brain storming, the students found a cozy place to write.  Each student wrote about something that scared them! Finally, they created their scarecrow!

This Jitterbug wrote, "I am scared when I see Mrs. Jodi." I love it!! Needless to say, I couldn't wait to run over and show Mrs. Jodi!

We had our annual Veteran's Day Program. This is such a special event for us each year. This year, we made soldiers that told our Veterans how thankful that we were for them. These hung in the building where we served lunch to the Veterans.

The following are pictures of our program and some of the beautiful decorations.

These American flag hearts were made by the Rockstars to help decorate for Veteran's Day.

Thank you to all of our military, past and present, for serving our country.  Thank you for protecting us and keeping us safe! You work does NOT go unnoticed!!

Two Hoots and A Holler: Celebrate Good Times, Come on!

 Hoot #1

This week our school celebrated Veteran's Day.  Our PTA hosted a luncheon for all of the veterans, and there was a school-wide assembly afterwards.  Our co-workers worked so hard decorating the hallways, library, and gym for this special day.  They did an amazing job, and everything was perfect! Our high school band joined us for the program to play music for the assembly while each grade sang a patriotic song for the veterans.  Just being among all of the heroes in one room was amazing...it brought a tear to your eye just listening to the music and seeing all of the veterans.

Today the Jitterbugs and Rockstars got to celebrate Ms. Jamie's 40th birthday!  I stayed late to put up a few decorations in her room, in BLACK of course! I knew her parents were planning on decorating her room too, but I had no idea what they had up their sleeve!  Jamie was in shock when she walked in her room and saw everything!  She was so surprised!  Her parents really out did themselves!  They had 40th birthday things EVERYWHERE!  IT WAS GREAT!!  Check out these pictures of her room!

The kids loved it!!
All 6 kindergarten classes got to sing "Happy Birthday"  to her today at lunch.  Her class had cupcakes, TWICE!  haha!  I bet the Jitterbugs sleep good tonight after all of the partying they did today!

All joking aside, I really hope that my partner in crime had the best birthday ever!  She deserves only the bestI hope all of her birthday wishes come true...I am so blessed to have her in my life! Jamie, I really do think you are 40 and FABULOUS!

This Week's Holler...

This week's holler goes out to Marissa at First Grade Stars.  Marissa is an Indiana blogger.  We loved going through her blog. Our favorite topic was her Five For Friday linky.  It was such a wonderful way to get an overview of the week in her class! We are totally jealous that she gets an iPad cart! Who cares if you have to share it?!?! We don't!!! We do not have one at all! Totally jealous! Everyone hop on over and check Marissa out!
