Two Hoots and A Holler: Unpacking our Classes!

Hoot #1
Let the year begin!  They are finally finished cleaning our room!  We will begin our reconstruction for the new school year classrooms in the upcoming week! We are so excited and anxious to get started!

I wanted to share with you my curtains that I created for my classroom.  I spent under $5.00!!
You heard me right, $5.00!  I made them out of plastic tablecloths.  Yes, the cheap $1.00 ones that you can find at Dollar Tree or Wal-Mart.  They were really simple.  All you need is a plastic tablecloth and clear packing tape.  Once I decide how long I need my curtains to be, I cut about 6 inches (vertically on the tablecloth) above that mark.  Then, I folded the top part of the tablecloth to my mark that I previously made and taped it with the clear packing tape.  This created the tunnel that the curtain rod goes through.  I have a large window area.  Each tablecloth created two panels.  I had to buy 2 tablecloths to cover my windows.  Here is the finished product!!

As far as color and design, the possibilities are ENDLESS!!!

This Week's Holler...
This week's holler goes out to Alexandria Jackson from Classroom Action with Ms. JacksonWe first met Ms. Alexandria Jackson at the Spring Teacher Blogger Meet up in French Lick, IN.  We just fell in love with the name of her blog!  Every time we say it, we chuckle because it is so catchy, and we immediately begin singing the song "Sorry, Ms. Jackson" by Outkast.  (We're sorry Ms. Jackson....oooohhhhhh....We are for real!) She also helped host the Teacher Nash Bash this summer, and we got the chance to hang out with this wonderful woman again!  She is very down to Earth and strives to be a life long learner.  She is very passionate about teaching, and this is seen through her blog!  Click on her button below and head on over to see what she has done this past school year and what she is up to this summer!

Hoot #1
We got to spend this weekend with some great people!  We went to Nashville to the End of the Year Nashville Bash Blogger & Teacher Meet Up.  We had a blast down in the south meeting up with some of the best educators in the world!

We first met up at Atmalogy! We caught up with old friends and met new ones!
Then it was time to eat some good ole southern food! BBQ, baked beans, macaroni and cheese (that was to die for!), corn muffins, and sweet tea were eaten by all! We left totally stuffed!
Smorgie came for a visit and a glass of sweet tea!

And then, it was....PICTURE TIME!!

Some of our bestest buddies came from Texas!  We couldn't wait to hug the necks of All Ya'll Need! We decided this group picture should be labeled, All Ya'll Glitter Girls!

Finally, it was prize time!  Amy from All Ya'll Need need won a ESGI year subscription for her entire grade!! Super Jealous, but so happy for her!
That night, we gathered at Opryland Hotel to mingle for a bit.

Sunday, we woke up bright and early to have breakfast at Monell's, which was absolutely amazing, and to say goodbye to all of our friend.  We said a special goodbye to our friend Greg @The Kindergarten Smorgasboard.  Thanks to everyone who hosted this awesome event!

We were blessed enough to attend and PRESENT (Yes! We said present!) at the Making Connections Conference in Biloxi, MS. We presented Kindergarten 101 to a great group of educators.  This was a HUGE step for us because we aren't used to talking to adults, but we did it.  We presented 2 days in a row, and we are so thankful we were given this opportunity to reach out to others.  We can't wait until the next one!!

The teachers even stayed around afterwards to ask questions and get more info!! How exciting!!

Congratulations to our winners of a 1 year subscriptions to ESGI!  We know that you will love it!  Thank you ESGI for supporting teachers throughout Mississippi!  Our recipients were so excited they won this, one even said she almost cried when she heard her name!

Big Thanks to Knowledge Tree in Horn Lake, MS! Thanks to you, these lovely ladies went home with a bag full of goodies!!

These two ladies went home with our newest item on TPT!

Two Hoots and A Holler: Goodbyes and Hellos

Hoot #1

We were given the honor to attend the retirement of one of our greatest mentors, Dr. Dennis Haslip.  He worked as a SPED teacher for one year with us, then he became the assistant principal at our school.  He was such a gift to our school.  He taught us so much on how to reach children with special needs.  He taught us to not only read data but how to allow that data to drive our instruction.  He allowed us to grow as educators and reach for our dreams. While doing this, he shared his mistakes and trials, as an educator, so that we could learn from his mistakes.  We love this man more than he will ever know! Thank you Judi Shellabarger for hosting such a wonderful event!

We are getting a new kindergarten unit!! That makes a total of 7 kindergarten units! We are excited about this because this will mean smaller class sizes for us.  We average about 25-27 students in our class each year.  We do have full time assistants, but let's be honest, the task is still overwhelming at times!  We would like to welcome Hannah Hurtado to our group! Hannah is familiar with our school.  She has taught 2nd grade for several years, so she already knows the ins and outs of the school.  We all know that kindergarten is a different world, but we know that Hannah will fit right in!!

This Week's Holler. . .

This weeks holler goes out to Dana Lester from Common to the Core! This fiery red head has got it going on!! She is so full of life and constantly on the go! We love all of her ELA CCSS ideas that she has blogged about!  Not only is she an educator, a blogger, and presenter.  She also is a consultant for Younique! This company has tons of wonderful make-up, but personally their 3D mascara is AWESOME!!  She can also design super cute shirts for teachers to say ANYTHING you would like!  She made some of the cutest personalized shirts for several others at the Spring Blogger Meetup in French Lick. She has so many talents, be sure to check her out by stopping by her blog!
