Two Hoots and A Holler

Hoot #1
Well here in Mississippi the weather is so unpredictable!  One day, in the middle of winter, it is 62 and the next it is snowing!  That is exactly what happened last Friday.  Now it is Thursday, and we are still out of school for a snow day!  Before the snow days hit, my class wrote an opinion piece in their journals.  They wrote whether or not they thought it would snow and wrote why.  We discussed different ways we could help the snow get to us, such as snow dancing, sleeping with a spoon under your pillow, wearing pajamas inside out and backwards, and putting ice cubes in the toilet.  Well these kiddos must have done the best snow dance ever because the snow and ice came to Mississppi and stayed!  I can't wait to get back to school to read all about what they did on their snow days!

Hoot #2
We are so thrilled that our students have been so excited about learning since their return from Christmas break!  Some kind of magic happens over Christmas break, and the students start off the new year more mature and more eager to learn!  We began using our adapted version of  "Calendar Binders" for morning work.  The students LOVE IT!  I don't think they even realize they are doing work, they are just excited to use a dry erase marker and have their own eraser!  It is so quiet in the mornings while they work...you could literally hear a pin drop!  They are so engaged in what they are doing!

This Week's Holler...
This week we want to give a HUGE holler to our co-worker and former kinder colleague, Danielle Abner!  She is now teaching first grade at our school, and she has been named our school's Teacher of the Year!  We are so proud of her!  She works so hard and is so dedicated to her students.  She is deserving of this award.  We are honored to have her representing our school, and we just want her to know that we think that she rocks, and we are so blessed to have her in our school family!  Congrats Danielle!
